Born in Taiwan, Chen Shang Ping lives in Shanghai and works internationally

My photographic practice begins with a search for stillness—a state beyond attachment and conflict. Through the camera, I reflect on the nature of Zen and trace the subtle movements of the inner life.

I understand heaven, earth, and all living things as part of a delicate equilibrium, an interdependence akin to the meeting of yin and yang. This sensibility shapes my visual language: balanced compositions, assertive lines, measured rhythms, and quiet, poetic space.Each photograph preserves a fleeting moment while revealing something of my interior world.

We emerge from nature and, in time, return to it—as roots enter the earth, as wind passes, and as rain falls. Mountains and clouds converge; stillness and movement coexist. Within black and white, distance and vastness meet. Layered peaks, surging clouds, and calm water hold the rhythms of life without words. By attending to nature’s breath, I seek moments in which the boundary between the self and the larger world begins to dissolve.Through my work, I invite viewers to slow down and encounter nature with renewed attention.I hope these images allow them to recognize the quiet beauty within ordinary experience and, through that recognition, develop a deeper respect for the natural world and a desire to protect it.To observe nature in stillness is not to withdraw from life, but to return to it with greater clarity.
